Fairy-Themed Lighting For Your Backyard

Whether you're planning a fairyland-themed wedding or creating a magical relaxation nook in your backyard, fairy-themed lighting is a must. Here are some whimsical lighting ideas to help you create the perfect atmosphere for your enchanted fairy forest.

1. Whimsical lanterns

Cute lanterns can mount on top of your fence posts or dangle from ribbons, hooks, or tree branches. These lanterns come in a variety of shapes, from birdcage-like shapes to globes to more classic lantern shapes. For lowest maintenance, choose solar-powered lanterns, since you won't need to change their batteries.

2. Lights on strings

Lights on strings are called fairy lights for a reason. The ethereal, whimsical atmosphere they can bring when draped around your nook is totally unique. You may find these lights inspiring, romantic, or even nostalgic.

Different styles and sizes of string lights can produce different effects, too. For instance, really tiny ones that dance around in the breeze could make you think of fireflies. You can choose colored ones as well (for instance, all-blue lights) if you want a unique flavor to your lighting. And although they're harder to find, you can purchase string lights powered by solar as well.

3. Floating spheres

Giant glowing spheres that seem to float in the air are otherworldly enough for any fairy theme. If you have a tree in your backyard, you can easily hang floating sphere lights at different heights from its branches to get this effect. You can use white outdoor Chinese solar lanterns (often made of nylon) with LED bulbs for this type of lighting.

4. Underwater lights

Lights that sparkle underwater can create beautiful, magical visual effects as the water moves around. If you have a water feature in your backyard (or plan to add one), you should consider adding underwater lighting for your fairy-themed nook. Whether you decide on white or colored lighting, lights dancing under your pond or waterfall can give it an added layer of beauty and mystery at night.

5. Glowing rocks

Glow-in-the-dark pebbles can add a mystical quality to your garden pathway when the sun goes down. Just keep in mind that the glow-in-the-dark effect may only last for a couple of hours per night. For more reliable glowing-rock effects to light your walkway, consider glass brick lights. Many of these are square, but you can also find round ones.

These are just some of the lighting ideas to consider when you're planning to adapt part or all of your yard to a fairy theme. For more information about installing these and other types of lights, contact your local garden lighting service today.
